The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about the daily deal website savemore.com.
The site, which is still operating, promises discounted vouchers for services or products much like Groupon. Over the past 6 months, savemore.com has offered deals for Subway restaurants, Barnes and Noble, CVS and other national retail companies.
The company appears to have delivered on its promises when it launched midyear in 2011. Customer complaints began surfacing in November, and by the end of December, the Better Business Bureau had received 222 complaints about the Texas-based company.
Promotions from the daily deal website appeared on national networks including CBS and NBC, and dozens of bargain bloggers around the Internet shared available deals.
Complaints against the company include vouchers for products or services that were never delivered, deceptive descriptions of products and failure to respond to customer complaints. Most of the current complaints have been unanswered.
"Although SaveMore.com answers complaints with assurances that problems have been addresses and makes credits and refunds, the complaints continue," said Jeanette Kopko, a spokeswoman for the Better Business Bureau, in a press release.
Under federal law, customers can dispute a charge on their credit card if a product or service was not delivered or there are unauthorized charges.
Federal law also requires that orders be shipped within 30 days if no specific delivery time was promised. Shoppers can demand a refund if the shipping period expires.
