The trick with the outlets is that there are some doorbuster sales, but a lot of the deals last all weekend. So, you don't necessarily have to sit in that traffic jam in order to get some discounts (especially on apparel)

Esther - the rewards programs work just like store gift certificates. When you buy an eligible item, you recieve a certificate for a certain amount of "store credit." For example, on Black Friday, CVS has almost 20 products that are free after ExtraCare Bucks.

So for, example, Carmex is on sale for $1 and you will receive $1 in Extra Care Bucks to spend on your next purchase, essentially making the item free. If you have LOTS of items to buy, like it sounds like you do...the best thing to do is break up your purchases. Purchase one of everything during one trip (you will only get one reward per item per transaction), then use those rewards to purchase a second batch later that day or the next day - your out-of-pocket expense for the second transaction is $0, and you will get new rewards to spend on a third purchase, etc. If you get a few ladies doing this, you should be able to rack up some great freebies!

Esther, a CVS you need an ExtraCare card to participate in the rewards program, and at Rite Aid you need a Wellness card. No card needed at Walgreens. The cards are just like grocery store MVP cards. You can wait until Black Friday (or the day you shop) to sign up.

Right now, you can buy a 32in HDTV at Newegg or Amazon for only $199.99. The Black Friday "online" HDTV deals started a week ago. Newegg and Amazon offer free shipping, no tax for va residents.. Walmart will have a really nice Samsung 32in on sale for $278.. but lets talk about a local store here in Newport News "SHAWEL's TV & APPLIANCE". Shawel's released a Black Friday ad which will appear in your paper that week (we are looing at it now) and it looks very similar to Walmarts. Very interesting. It looks like they are selling most of the items for a few dollars less. 70inch TV's, and many more items. So make sure before you run to Walmart that day you check out the "Shawel's TV & Appliance" ad

The only place I purchase my video games from is Amazon.com. The online video game prices are usually much better than the in store deals. Amazon goes nuts with their Amazon Lightning Video Games. I suggest you wait and track Newegg and Amazon for another deal on this game. Amazon loves to throw in Amazon credit on future purchases.

My crazy 10 year old son wants to go shopping in Black Friday. I told him good luck with that. I did take him to the Kmart by our house last year and since it wasn't busy he thinks that's how all stores are.

One thing to keep in mind about shopping in store versus online, sometimes the in-store option will yield freebies. Last year, for example, I purchased a great laptop deal at Office Max. When I got to check out, I found out that because I purchased the laptop, I was eligible to buy a very nice $200 printer for $10. My dad bought the same laptop on Office Max's website and did not get the printer.

Jess, that's a good question. In past years, we have seen better deals on Black Friday (which you can also purchase online on Thanksgiving Day). Cyber Monday has tended to be the leftovers or the free shipping deals. Not to say there won't be a few exciting steals, but because there are no print advertisements for those sales, we're more at the mercy of the retailers.

So I can take my receipt in from Tues or Wed during the doorbuster sale and they will adjust prices? I searched it and in past years they didn't. Look at the in store black friday ads, then scout the item online. Every year we see most of these items pop up online. They don't last long, but thats how I do my Black Friday Shopping. Cyber Monday? I shouldn't probably say this but I've never been impressed with Cyber Monday.. most of the "deals' have put me to sleep.. and I've been posting deals for 10+ years now.

About Toys R Us price adjustment - I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with a corporate customer service agent answering that question, and she assured me that the price adjustment would work on Black Friday. But, you're right. What a bummer to be turned down. I would call the customer service agent, get her name and a direct phone number if possible to carry with you to the store.

Sasha- when I was searching for a tablet, it came down to the Kindle Fire and the iPad. I visited the Apple store at MacArthur Center and was told by an Apple employee himself that the Kindle Fire was going to give the iPad a run for it's money this holiday season. That sealed the deal for me---if I was going to be able to get pretty much the same thing as the iPad for only $199, I had made my decision right there.

Sasha, I started playing with mine yesterday and I'm very impressed. Everything works as advertised, the screen was very high def and netflix looked like a million bucks. the Silk browser was great too! The only down side is you have to get a case with it because the on/off button is on the side right where you might hold the tablet. So I'm thinking my case, when it comes, will protect that button. Here is a great initial review from Jerry about the fire.

My teenager was very impressed also.... hopped on facebook then started a movie... very snappy response.

Oh Sasha- what a great question. :) Each of those stores give you store credit when you shop there for items. So for example they may have Advil for $2.50 a bottle and when you purchase it they will give you $2.50 back in store credit. You can then use that to buy something else. Most of the laptops being sold today are coming with plenty of RAM (memory) and hard drive space. For the casual gamer, having something with a decent graphics card is key! Gaming laptops (even if casual) are not generally going to be found at your local store -- instead, these are ordered directly from Dell/HP, etc... But can still be found at a great price!

This is what I love about new computers, it's pretty hard to buy anything bad. Anything in a $500+ price range is going to be excellent for what you're trying to accomplish. Intel's new processors: i3, i5, i7 are all going to do an excellent job. If you can keep the memory above 4GB and hard drive size about 500GB, you've got a great computer for the long haul.

There's nothing wrong with the Kindle Fire, it's just not an ultra powerful tablet that will be capable of gaming. I don't think it's trying to compete with the options I listed above. If you want it for media and book reading only, it's a strong contender.

Yes! The deals aren't over if you miss out during Black Friday! Companies like: Dell / HP / Acer, etc... are going to want your business through the holidays. Remember that computer specs are important, but so is the warranty. Also, new computers generally come with only 30 days on the virus protection - be warned!

The Kindle Fire, though not on sale, has gotten great reviews for the casual tablet user, and costs $199. We're not likely to see any discounts. The tablets that are discounted this year all have pretty bad reviews. Our tech expert really recommended going with the Kindle Fire if you're not going to spring for a higher-end ($500) tablet.
