Bottom Dollar on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News has marked down everything in the store by 25 percent as of Wednesday as a first step toward closing. Alcohol and tobacco products are excluded from the sale.
UPDATE: The stores closing on Twin Pines Road in Portsmouth and Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach also are hosting 25 percent off sales. Store employees added that milk was excluded.
The Bottom Dollar location on Elmhurst Street in Newport News also is closing. Store employees could not be reached to confirm the 25 percent off sale, though it is likely the location is participating.
At Bottom Dollar locations that are not slated to close, look for markdowns on store-brand items, one local employee says.
